Despite the challenges posed by the landlord’s decision, Cook’s determination to keep her bookstore open during Black History Month resonated deeply with supporters. In response to her plea for assistance, Isis Williams, president of the Haddon Township Equity Initiative, stepped in to help organize a modern-day rent party and launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $23,000.

The overwhelming support from the community surpassed the fundraising goal within a week, ensuring that Ida’s Bookshop can continue its mission of amplifying women authors, artists, and activists.
