When you think of America what do you see
The land of promise and freedom
One nation under God
Where dreams come true
Unable to be divided no matter the odds
When I see America
I see the war going on within us
It’s the white man versus the white man
Blaming each other for every problem
Threatening his enemies with revenge
Instead of trying to “make America great again”
Is it the country they love
Or do they love the power
Fame and money
That’s the American dream
Picket white fences
And porcelain skin
A high-rise office job
Beautiful vacations
Who would dream about a black job
And border patrol
Prices rising higher than jobs are paying
Social media brain rot
The lack of gun control
When you think of America who do you see
Emily and Joe
Donald and Anne
Or Aiden and Imani
Would you see me
Because I’m just a black girl
Surviving in this red white and blue world
This united nation I live in is broken
The American dream
Is just an impossible reality
